Fictional character biography[edit]

Pre-Crisis[edit]

In the DC Comics Universe, Grimbor is a master craftsman with the ability to create fail-proof confinement devices. He met his partner, a young mutant named Charma Drisden with mind-control powers, when the headmistress of a school on the planet Mirabeau hired him to devise a way of negating Charma's abilities. Charma's powers include a hypnotic aura that makes men love and protect her but makes other women hate and detest her. Using her powers, Charma persuaded Grimbor to use his abilities for crime. Together, they captured the Legion of Super-Heroes and attempted to blackmail R. J. Brande, but they were foiled by Shrinking Violet. Shrinking Violet attacked Charma and put her in shackles that nullified her powers. At the same time, male Legionnaires attacked Grimbor. Unknown to the Legionnaires, Charma was later killed in a women's prison, her powers having earned the wrath of female inmates. Infuriated, Grimbor swore revenge on the Legion, the group that put Charma in prison, attacked the Legion, and later put the Earth in energy chains. The Legion thwarted him, and he was imprisoned in one of his own cells.[1]

Post-Zero Hour[edit]

Grimbor makes a brief appearance in the post-Zero Hour continuity. A flashback shows him being defeated by EarthGov agents Lyle Norg and Jacques Foccart before they gain their invisibility powers.[2]

Final Crisis[edit]

Grimbor the Chainsman is among the super-villains in Superman-Prime's Legion of Super-Villains.[3][citation needed]

Powers and abilities[edit]

Grimbor is a master craftsman and an expert trap master.

Equipment[edit]

He uses special chains to capture his enemies.

In other media[edit]

Grimbor appears in the Legion of Super-Heroes episode "The Karate Kid" and was voiced by Lex Lang. He works with Imperiex to steal items, and evades Nemesis Kid (who pursues Grimbor on behalf of the Science Police) and the Legion of Super-Heroes. When most of the Legion ended up being hit by a weapon that removed their powers, only Karate Kid was left to fight him. Karate Kid managed to defeat him when one of Grimbor's chains got caught in a shaft. Grimbor was seemingly destroyed when Karate Kid triggered an explosive device on his belt. However, Grimbor reappeared in the episode "In the Beginning" when he captured R.J. Brande and lured the Legion into a trap. He was hired by R.J.'s former partner Roderick Doyle (who was posing as Senator Tolay) to eliminate R.J. and the Legion once and for all. He was eventually defeated by Lightning Lad.
