On September 20, 2012, Megan Stammers ran away with her teacher Jeremy Forrest at 4:30 PM BST to a ferry from Dover to Calais, France, settling in Bordeaux. Eight days later, both of them were found safe[1], and Forrest was sentenced to jail.
Background
Megan Stammers left her home in Eastbourne, England lying to her mother Danielle, and stepfather Martin[2], that she was going to a friend's house[citation needed] on September 20, 2012.
Abduction
Stammers' mathematics teacher Jeremy Forrest decided to get a ferry just outside of Eastbourne, in Dover. They had arrived in Calais, France, on September 21 at around 9:20 pm.[3]. When her school and parents realised she hadn't come to school that day, they were concerned. Her cousin, Chloe, had even hoped "that I woke up this morning and this was all a nightmare"[3]
By September 28, she had come back, and Forrest was arrested.
