Kieran McLaughlin (born 19 November 1993),[2] known online as Kmac2021, is a Scottish YouTuber, musician, multi-instrumentalist and internet personality, better known for his music parody videos and comedy skits, as well as his original music.

Life and career

McLaughlin opened his YouTube channel on 21 May 2008, and on 16 October of that year, he uploaded his first video titled "Endorphin on Crack 3", a parody video created with Endorphin software.[3] On 6 May 2009, Kmac2021 posted a drum cover of "Imogens Puzzle Part 2" by metal band Psyopus. Between 2008 and 2017, he uploaded videos occasionally, but only a small number gained attention. He did not begin growing popular until 2017.

That year, on 22 June, he posted a video called "When you bought an 8-string guitar but the only song you know is Basket Case by Green Day.", playing that song with an 8-string guitar, which is originally intended for metal music. The video quickly gained attention and has over 5 million views. Regarding this, he said, “I had made the Green Day video privately for my friends. After they saw it, they suggested making it public.” “It’s been a crazy reaction. I wasn’t expecting my videos to ever be this popular.”[4]

Some of his notable renditions include Beatles' "Hey Jude" and "Blackbird"; some Green Day songs like "Wake Me Up When September Ends", Basket Case, and "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)"; Ed Sheeran's "Photograph", and Justin Bieber's "Love Yourself", mostly with heavy metal parodies.

In 2016, McLaughlin released an EP called moon using his moniker "thenightyouleft".[5]

On 23 December 2019, McLaughlin released his debut EP, Imposter, with 6 original songs inspired by heavy metal.[6] The entire EP was streamed the day before on his YouTube channel.[7]

Some of his music can also be found on his SoundCloud account.[8]
