KOSMOS THEATRE
Experimental visual theatre Kosmos Theatre is an independent company founded by director Darius Vizbaras and artistic director Žilvinas Vingelis. The theatre focuses on combining classic theatre forms with achievements of contemporary science and technology. The company was originally founded in 2012[1] under the name of "Baltic Chamber Opera Theatre," which was established by Jonas Sakalauskas. Its main artistic focus was to develop classical chamber operas and music theatre. In 2014, Darius Vizbaras joined the company as the new director. Together with artistic director Jonas Sakalauskas, they created the first short-musical festival "M'fest'15"[2], the chamber opera festival "Neringa Opera Week'15"[3] and several opera stagings. From 2015, when Jonas Sakalauskas moved to lead "Klaipėda Music Theatre[4], Darius Vizbaras became the owner of the company. In 2016, artistic director Žilvinas Vingelis joined the team and began to establish a new artistic vision-manifesto with their first performance "Lila: Demiurges Secret Play". Following this new path, several projects were established, and after the visual theatre laboratory "KOSMOS LAB'19"[5] was held, the decision to rebrand the company was made. In March 2020, the company changed its name to "KOSMOS THEATRE" and officially declared its new path towards the development of visual theatre. At the end of 2020, KOSMOS THEATRE was granted professional performing arts status by the Lithuanian culture ministry[6].
