Kuldip Maity, (born 23rd May 1978) is an Indian entrepreneur and co-founder of Village Financial Services Limited who also serves as the Managing Director and CEO of this company.[1] He has served in this capacity from 2006. He is well known in the social entrepreneurship community for his strong business ethics and financial acumen. Born in the village of Pancharul in West Bengal, India, he completed his education in the year 1997. During his tenure as the MD and CEO at Village Financial Services Limited, he has overseen the growth of this organisation, which is today one of Eastern India's fastest expanding NBFC MFIs.[2]

Early Life[edit]

Kuldip Maity was born in the village of Pancharul in West Bengal. As a child he was influenced by his father Ajit Maity's will to serve those who were less fortunate, which led him to choose his career in the microfinance industry when he moved to the city of Kolkata, where he would later settle.

Village Microcredit Services[edit]

Kuldip Maity started his work at Village Microcredit Services in the year 2004. His will to serve the poor was essential in his goal to convert this entity into a recognised NBFC, which was achieved in 2006.

Village Financial Services Limited[edit]

Starting with just 100 employees, Mr. Maity and the newly christened Village Financial Services (popularly referred to as VFS) began their journey in earnest. The year was 2006, and the company had a portfolio only in the state of West Bengal. However, rapid expansion and growth was on the horizon, as he was able to use his technical know-how and industry reputation to grow the company in an exponential manner. Since its initial days, the company has grown tenfold as today it commands a portfolio of just over Rs 1000 crores and is present in 11 states of India.[3]
