The LGBT Poet Laureate is an honorary position created and appointed by the Camden LGBT Forum.[1] The Poet Laureate, representing the LGBT community in London and the United Kingdom, is expected to write Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender-themed poetry that celebrates and reflects the diverse experiences of the LGBT community, raise the profile and awareness of LGBT poetry, and write poems for recognised LGBT days and events.[2][3]
The first LGBT Poet Laureate is Trudy Howson, who was appointed in February 2016 to coincide with LGBT History Month. The appointment will last for three years.

Howson is an established poet, and since her appointment, she and her poetry have been featured in various media, including BBC Norfolk,[4] Out in Brighton[5] and Diva Magazine.[6]
On 13 June 2016, at the Old Compton Street Vigil to mourn the Orlando shooting incident, Howson wrote and performed a poem titled 'Response to Orlando Shooting',[7] which was aired live on Sky News.[8]
Howson wrote and performed the poem for London Pride 2016.[9] In July of the same year, Howson's poem 'IDAHOT',[10] was featured by the London Metropolitan Police on their website.
Howson hosts a popular monthly LGBT poetry evening Incite! Poetry in London's West End.[11]
