The company was formed in 1985.[1]. It has three manufacturing sites in India located in Panipat and Himachal Pradesh all of which have WHO-GMP certification[2]. It started working as a fully integrated pharmaceutical company in 1995 and began exports to foreign countries in the following year. Controversy[edit]

In October 25, 2017, Madras High Court dismissed a plea filed by Laborate and other pharmaceutical firms for revoking the ban imposed on Diclofenac drug due to its impact on vultures, a critically endangered species considered to be declining in population mostly due to consumption of carcasses of livestock and cattle injected with Diclofenac, a painkiller[4]

On September 19, 2018, Laborate and other major pharmaceuticals firms challenged the Centre’s decision to ban fixed combination dose drugs(FDC’s). The Delhi High Court provided protection from coercive action against them for the stock already in the market, provided they stop manufacturing the prohibited medicines.[5]
