The film opened to negative reviews in June 2013 with most critics labelling it as a "disappointment" in comparison to Bharathiraja's previous work. A reviewer from Sify.com noted "Lakshman needs to do a crash course in acting, before doing his next film", while another critic also lampooned his performance noting "he doesn’t fit the rural guy role in the movie" and "it is very surprising to see that a lead actor from Bharatiraja movie failing miserably."[3][4][5]

He then went on to feature in a supporting role in Suseenthiran's sports film Jeeva portraying a cricketer. Featuring alongside Vishnu and Sridivya, the film opened to positive reviews in September 2014.
