"Lanes" is a song by American internet personality DJ Akademiks, credited as Lil AK, alongside rapper 6ix9ine released as the lead single for the Pornhub Valentine's Day Album.[1][2] The single is 6ix9ine's second release since his incarceration in November 2018 pending trial in September 2019, following his feature on "Swervin" by A Boogie wit da Hoodie.[3][4]
Background[edit]
Described as an "island-vibe record", the song was recorded by DJ Akademiks, and was said to have been recorded by 6ix9ine months before his November 2018 arrest and incarceration for federal charges, as a gift to Akademiks for his birthday. Akademiks told HotNewHipHop "It was my birthday, I was in the studio, 6ix9ine came by to wish me happy birthday. It's like a 1-2 step type of pop type of dance record, and uh, he did that record for me back then. I was trying to think when I should put it out, I ain’t wanna put it out when he was about to drop a record; anyway, low and behold he gets locked up. Now I decided I'm going to release the record."[1][5]
Composition[edit]
The song samples "Island" by South Korean boy band Winner. Using auto-tuned melodies, 6ix9ine provides vocal chops over "steel drum instrumental".[6]
