Larne Motor Club was formed in 1954[1] by a group of motorsport enthusiasts from Northern Ireland. It is a member of Motorsport UK which awarded the club an award for the 2022 Motorsport Organising Team of the year.[2] The club runs events such as Autotesting, Rallying, Hillclimbs and Sprints. The aim of the club is to help marshals, officials, competitors and fans reach their goals through motorsport. Notable competitors include Paddy Hopkirk,[3] Russ Swift, Martin Donnelly (racing driver) and WRC winner Colin McRae.[3]

Cairncastle Hill Climb[edit]

Larne Motor Club organise the Cairncastle Hill Climb which is the longest hill climb in the uk and Ireland at 1.65 miles (2904 yards).[4] The course consists of fast flowing corners mixed with tight twisty sections.[5] The event has been dominated over the years by Graham Thompson who has won all but one event since 2008.[6] This event is part of the ANICC Millers Oils Hillclimb Championship which sees a variety of classes including saloon, GT and specialist cars.

Autotesting[edit]

The Club organises one round of the Northern Ireland Autotest Championship each year.[7] Throughout the year the club also organises a Fully Forward autotest which also beginners to learn the art of car control.
