Laundrylux is the largest privately owned importer and distributor of commercial laundry equipment in North America. The company provides self-service washers and dryers for laundromats and multi-housing laundry rooms throughout North America, as well as commercial washers, dryers, and ironers for on-premises laundry[1] rooms in the hospitality, healthcare, and commercial laundry industries. They are the exclusive importer and distributor of Electrolux Professional and Wascomat commercial laundry equipment in North America and also manufacture and distribute their own line of commercial laundry equipment under the Encore and Crossover brands. The company was founded in 1955 by Bernard Milch under the name Wascomat, and changed its name to Laundrylux in 2007. Its headquarters are located in Inwood, NY with offices in Manhattan, NY.

History[edit]

The company was founded in 1955 by Bernard Milch. Milch, a Holacaust survivor, arrived in the US when he was 15 years old. With a background in mechanics, he was hired in 1956 to assess the damage to the laundry equipment aboard the Swedish American Line’s M/S Stockholm after the ship collided with the Andrea Doria near the Island of Nantucket. Milch was impressed that the Swedish-manufactured Wascator machines remained functional even after being drained of seawater, and he later acquired the sales and marketing rights for Wascator in North America[2]. In 1960, under the Wascomat name, the company began to distribute commercial laundry equipment to laundromats and on-premises laundry rooms in the United States, Canada, and Mexico[3].

Following Electrolux’s acquisition of Wascator in 1973, Wascomat continued to distribute the Wascomat line and also became the exclusive distributor of Electrolux commercial laundry equipment in North America. In 1980, Bernard Milch was knighted by the king of Sweden, Carl XIV Gustaf, for his contribution to Swedish-American business[4]. Neal Milch became CEO in 2007, following his father’s retirement and changed the company’s name to Laundrylux. Laundrylux began manufacturing its own line of semi-professional washers and dryers with the introduction of Crossover in 2011, and Encore in 2018.

Expansion[edit]

In 2019 Laundrylux acquired a number of distributors in the US including CESCO[5], Golden State Laundry Systems[6], Automated Laundry Systems[7], Texas Coin and Commercial Laundry[8] and Direct Machinery[9]. Through these acquired distributors Laundrylux has a direct presence in multiple key markets within the United States.
