Learnalot Ltd is a British limited company developing and maintaining game based learning (GBL) technologies. Learnalot hosts and develops the 'Learnalot portal' which specialises in mathematics for 11- to 16-year-olds. Formed in Burscough in Lancashire in 2009, the company launched its educational portal at the annual BETT show at Olympia in London in January 2011.[1] The company mission statement says it engages young learners by fusing education with existing interests in popular culture and video games.

The Learnalot portal itself is continuously updated with new content of two different types – resources and games. In each resource the learner assumes the role of a character within a given scenario and is tasked with completing an overall objective that is broken down into three separate activities. Each activity focuses on different areas of the curriculum and each activity contributes to an overall score and grade for that resource. In order to achieve an A grade, the learner must master each of the three different activities and the skills that each demand.

Both resources and games feature online leaderboards which encourage competition among users by periodically awarding prizes to those with the highest scores.

Resource scenarios include saving mankind from extinction by establishing a colony on Mars, re-capturing convicts who have recently escaped from the local prison[2] and ridding a haunted house of its unwelcome guests.[3]
