The company was founded in 1986 by Edoardo Epis as a company producing steam irons. In 1992 the company expanded into domestic and commercial espresso machines. The company produces 50,000 espresso machines and 30,000 irons a year in their factory in Castegnato, Brescia, Lombardy. Gemme is now run by Edoardo's sons, CEO Emmanuele and his brothers Giorgio, Marco and Mauro.[1] Mauro Epis is R&D Manager and is responsible for designing many of Lelit's espresso machines.[2]
