Leonid Kanter (in Ukrainian Кантер Леонід Віленович) was born on July 27, 1981 is a Ukrainian film director, producer, traveler and writer.

Life events[edit]

Leonid Kanter was born and raised in Kyiv. In 1998 Leonid finished Kyiv Natural Science Lyceum №145.

When he was the first-year student (1998) he worked as a journalist and presenter on the National Ukrainian Television. In 1999 Kanter was a presenter of TV program «Future celebrities». [1]

In 2002 graduated from Karpenko-Karyi Kyiv National University of Theatre, Cinema and TV (Specialty: Theatre and cinema actor, TV-presenter).

In 2005 Kanter got the second higher education (Specialty: TV& film –director) at the same University.

In 2003 he established the “Lizard films” production. This studio made more than 50 short films, some full-length movies and documentaries. The roles were performed by the famous Ukrainian and Russian actors, singers and even politicians.

In 2004-2007 Kanter worked as a teacher at Karpenko-Karyi Kyiv National University of Theatre, Cinema and TV.

In 2007 Leonid Kanter moved to the small village called Obyrok in Chernihiv region.

In 2003 Kanter was the author of the Extreme public entertainment “STALKER” – a quest in a real time.

In 2004 he was initiator of an expedition, a game “With a stool to the ocean”. The purpose was to bring four Ukrainian stools to four shores of the ocean

    2010 – The Pacific Ocean. The expedition went through both American continents: North and South. In this period another teams from Russia, Belorussia and Europe (Lithuania, France and Finland) joined the expedition. Duration: 365 days. The monument of the 4th Stool and the Ukrainian flag were set on the Cape Horn (Cabo de Hornos, Tierra del Fuego, Chile).
  • In 2007 Leonid Kanter created an art-village Obyrok. [2] It is an open creative space in one of the abandoned Ukrainian village where he gathers people from all over the world, creates festivals, workshops and art-schools, traditional celebrations. Among the most popular festivals are the festival “BREAD by own hands” and the first afro-ethnic festival in Ukraine Mama Africa.

    In 2012 Kanter became the founder and director of Political Street Theatre in Ukraine.

    In 2014 he issued a book “With the Stool to the Ocean” with co-author Pavlo Solodko.

    • In 2014 together with Ivan Yasniy he filmed documentary “The War for Your Accounts”
    • In 2015 came out his full-length documentary “The Ukrainians”[4] (together with Ivan Yasniy). The characters of the film are volunteers, who fought for Donezk airport in 2014-2015. Film music – band «Komu vnyz» and Oleksij Byk.
    • In 2018 comes out the full-length documentary "Myth"[5] (together with Ivan Yasniy). The film tells about life and death of the Ukrainian opera singer Vasyl Slipak and was made with the support of hundreds contributors [6]
