Lightspeed Technologies was founded in 1994 and is an American Aviation Audio & Communications Equipment Manufacturer based in Lake Oswego Oregon. Their key product lines are based around Active Noise Reduction "ANR" aviation headsets; an essential industrial personal protective equipment for use in noisy environments. This was in response to the revolutionary Bose Aviation Headset (Series 1) released in 1989.[1][2][3] In 1995, Bose released their Aviation Headset Series 2 which raised the bar for noise-cancelling performance.[4] The following year at the 1996 EAA Airventure Airshow, Lightspeed responded by releasing their first ANR Aviation Headset - Model 15K. In 1997, they followed up with an improved 20K forming the "K Series" of Lightspeed Aviation's ANR Headsets.[5]
By 1999 Lightspeed Aviation spun-off from Lightspeed Technologies and headed by Allan Schrader mainly due to the success of the K Series of headsets. The early competition with Bose helped make ANR Headsets become mainstream in aviation which Bose later adapted the technology for consumer markets. Today, Lightspeed Aviation has designed and manufactured several separate platforms.
