New Gen Birit Divas/Idols/Duets/Sing-Offs[edit]
New Gen Birit Idols is a co-ed vocal group composed of the new generation of singers that was formed on August 25, 2019. Since forming, the group has been performing as a regular segment.
Originally, the group was titled New Gen Champs or J.E.Z. and was composed of singing champions Janine Berdin, Elha Nympha and Zephanie.
Some time in November 2019, Lala Vinzon served as a temporary replacement when Berdin got diagnosed with Cushing's syndrome. Berdin would return to the group on December 8, 2019.
In March 2020, the group took a hiatus due to the rules regarding the community quarantines in the country, which prevented under-21 people from being allowed in the studio at that time.
On October 18, 2020, Janine and Elha returned to ASAP, while Zephanie temporarily left the show due to commitments to Brightlight Productions' Sunday Noontime Live!, in which she was a member of the said show's Ultimate Vocal Showdown.
In January 2021, plans to revive the group started after Sheena Belarmino joined Janine and Elha in certain prods.
On March 8, 2021, the group was revived after Zephanie returned to ASAP following her stint in Sunday Noontime Live!, later, rejoining the group.
On April 25, 2021, the group would later be renamed to New Gen Divas, and each of the four members would be given their own colors for their looks. Janine would be assigned the color red, Elha would be assigned the color Blue, Zephanie would be assigned the color green and Sheena would be assigned the color Yellow.[2]
In August 2021, Janine and Zephanie were unable to tape for the August 2021 episodes due to prior commitments that had to be done prior to the reimposition of the Enhanced community quarantine in Metro Manila caused by a surge in COVID-19 cases in the area due to the SARS-CoV-2 Delta variant, therefore, Gigi De Lana and Lara Maigue temporarily replaced them. Janine would later return to the group on September 6, 2021, following an appearance on It's Showtime’s Madlang Pi-Poll segment with the other members (except Zephanie). Maigue would later serve as a temporary replacement for Zephanie until her replacement was chosen.
Zephanie took a temporary hiatus from the said group after being chosen as one of the 12 winners of the Camp Now United competition, in which she would temporarily leave the Philippines to attend a 2-week bootcamp of the said group in Abu Dhabi with 10 other talents from around the world in September 2021.[3] Despite returning to the Philippines in October 2021, she would not return for any further episodes after the bootcamp. She later renewed her contract with Cornerstone Entertainment through their Gen C launch, confirming her eventual departure from the show and the network.[4]
On October 3, 2021, the New Gen Divas had a duet with some of the new generation of male singers as part of the 10th anniversary of the KathNiel loveteam, therefore being reformatted into the New Gen Birit Duets from the said episode onwards. It would later be called New Gen Birit Sing-Offs for certain episodes. It was later officially named New Gen Birit Idols a few weeks later.
On the December taping cycles, Janine was unavailable to appear in the live/taped episodes for the month, as a result, Jayda temporarily replaced her for the said episodes.
In the January 2, 2022, episode, Alexa Ilacad temporarily filled in, as a result of many of the members being absent. She later filled in again on February 13, 2022.
After not appearing in the show for 8 months, Zephanie left ABS-CBN and transferred to GMA Network.[5] [6] Fana (also known as Fatima Louise Lagueras) was officially named her permanent replacement following Zephanie's transfer, and had her debut with the group on April 17, 2022. Despite this change, Lara Maigue occasionally continues to appear in the segment in the case one of the members are absent.
