This is a list of United States Congress members who caught SARS-COV-2, the virus which causes the disease COVID-19, during the COVID-19 pandemic. An infection of COVID-19 is when the viral particles of the disease bind to host surface cellular receptors.[1] Member-elects to Congress have also caught the virus before being sworn into office, including Louisiana Congressman-elect Luke Letlow, who died of the disease in December 2020 five days before he was set to take office.[2] This list only includes those who were infected while being a sitting member of Congress and includes members from the 116th and 117th Congresses and consists of Senators, Representatives, and non-voting members. An infection in this list is determined by a positive PCR, antigen, or antibody test, but also includes instances where a member suspected themselves of having the disease but was not tested. Keep in mind that this list is not fully exhaustive, as there have likely been undetected or non-publicly disclosed cases of the disease.
As of April 2022, there have been 198 infections that meet the above criteria (of which 9 are re-infections) and 1 death. Of the infected 105 were members of the Democratic Party, 86 were members of the Republican Party, and 2 who were unaffiliated or members of regional or third parties. Of note is that a disproportionately high number of male Congressmembers have contracted the disease, and in turn a disproportionately low number of female Congressmembers have.
