Anupamaa is an Indian drama series created and produced by Rajan Shahi and Deepa Shahi under Director's Kut Productions which airs on Hindi General Entertainment Channel Star Plus.It features life of a middle-aged woman Anupamaa and her struggles post-divorce with the moral support of her one-sided lover and friend Anuj and younger son Samar.

Anupamaa aka Anu/Rockstar Mummy (formerly Shah, née Joshi)[1][edit]
The protagonist. Initially introduced as Anupamaa Shah (the former wife of Vanraj Shah) is daughter of Kanta Joshi, sister of Bhavesh Joshi, daughter-in-law to Hasmukh Shah and Leela Shah; sister-in-law to Dolly Shah Patel and mother to Paritosh "Toshu" Shah, Samar Shah aka Bakuda/Samu and Pakhi "Sweety" Shah. She's a sworn sister to Dolly and her husband Sanjay and more like a mother to her daughter Meenali. She's called Rockstar Mummy by Samar and Anu by rest of the family members elder than her. She's having self sacrificing nature who often forgets her own worth. She's an excellent Kathak dancer since childhood. One can't take his eyes off while seeing her mesmerizing dance. Her dance was the principle reason behind Anuj Kapadia, then an intelligent student and protective guy towards female students of college, fall in love with her. However post her forced marriage she took her dreams and studies on stake for the sake of family. Though she loved Vanraj from the core of her heart during their 25-years-marriage but didn't got that same love in reciprocal. Soon after becoming mother to her 3 children Vanraj started an extra-marital affair with his colleague Kavya Gandhi by taking advantage of Anu's innocence. Time and again people including Leela Baa, Toshu, Pakhi and Vanraj started humiliating her for her being a housewife with incomplete degree. However she got a blessing in the form of her Bakuda Samar, her younger son and father-in-law Hasmukh Shah. They were, they are and they will be the only 2 people from born as Shahs who understand her and support her always. After coming to know about Vanraj's affair with Kavya on their Silver Jubilee day she was left shattered. But with the support of Samar, Devika(her best friend), Nandini (Kavya's neice, then Samar's friend, now Samar's love interest), Kinjal(then Toshu's fiancée, now wife), Bapuji, Sanjay, Dolly and Mamaji she stood up on her own again. She's a brave woman indeed who didn't got scared off by her Ovarian cancer but fought it back and divorced Vanraj while suffering from it. Though out of her love for family she again started staking her self-respect. But now she's an independent businesswoman as Anuj's business partner and co-owner of Anupamaa Dance Academy.
Anuj Kapadia aka AK[2][edit]
The main lead of show Anuj is a business tycoon returned from USA after many years. He's Anupamaa's one-sided college days lover and still loves her after 26 years as he loved her inner beauty and talent. He's owner of AK Group of Industries. He considers his househelp Gopichandra Karodia as his family as he was the one who took care of him since childhood and later on in adulthood post his parents' demise. He's a good friend to Devika since college-days. He's trustee of Anu's daughter Pakhi's school. He became more than a friend and less like a father-figure to Samar from their very first meeting itself when he saved an emotionally depressed Samar from a deadly accident. He is a true gentleman who offered business partnership to Anupamaa on the base of her talent rather than his one-sided unrequited love towards her and doesn't raise his hand on a woman. He always kept himself in the limits of friendship to honour Anupamaa who was unaware of his love. He even helped Samar find Nandini when she left for her depression regarding Samar's safety, saved his life from Nandini's obsessive lover Rohan and helped him getting rid of Rohan from his, Nandini and Anu's lives. After revealing his love in front of family he lost all hopes but felt relieved when Anu revealed that she overheard him and Samar made her realise the importance of friend in life as he was the only one who understood his love.
Vanraj Shah aka V/Mr. Shah[3][edit]
The male grey-shaded/negative lead of show. He's Leela and Hasmukh's son, Dolly's brother, Anu's former and Kavya's current husband, Toshu, Samar and Pakhi's father, Kinjal's father-in-law and Nandini's would be father-in-law. He's called V by Kavya and Mr. Shah by Anu and Samar. Though he struggled a lot in life but he's having such a high male-ego that he often boasts about his struggles unnecessarily after those who goes against him to take right stand like Samar, Anu, Nandini, Kinjal, Bapuji, Mamaji and Dolly. He took Anu for granted and started an extra-marital affair with Kavya taking advantage of Anu's innocence. He only considered Anu for household works and fixing those things which he can't do. He also considered Samar as his child in the time of his own selfish needs. Otherwise humiliated him and his talent by calling him loser and other cheap words. He underwent soft corner for both Anu and Samar after his accident, during resort stay and before Property Loan fraud. But again showed his true colours when they went against him. He even humiliated Nandini for being infertile and expected Samar and Nandini to call off their relationship for the sake of his own affair. He even went against Bapuji and Dolly when they confronted him for insulting Anu and snatching her right. His relationship with Samar was drifted apart after he came to know about his affair and broke all ties with him asking him to consider his younger son dead for him.
Kavya Shah(formerly Gandhi)[4][edit]
The female grey-shaded/negative lead of show. Kavya is Aniruddh Gandhi's former wife, Vanraj's current wife, daughter-in-law to Hasmukh and Leela, Nandini's neice and only a second wife to their father for Anu's children specially Samar and Pakhi. She's called as Maide Ki Katori by Baa. Initially having a love-marriage with Aniruddh she started an extra-marital affair with Vanraj when Aniruddh ignored her and by taking advantage of Anu's innocence. She acted as a friend to Anu after entering their house. However soon she got obsessed to Vanraj after in his attempt to make her jealous by giving attention to Anu. Her obsession became the main reason for affair getting revealed. She was even warned and confronted by Nandini for deceiving Anu. But she didn't listened to anyone. Soon she started crossing limits in her obsession by first trying to snatch Anu's motherly rights on Pakhi on her birthday, then creating scene on Toshu's marriage thus getting slap by Anu, and trying to ruin Samar's whole life by getting him arrested under false charges. However she failed everytime. She even didn't supported Nandini on her engagement day when her infertility was revealed after whole family thus leading to Samar and Nandini's engagement getting called off. She tried to turn Kinjal and Pakhi against Anu but failed. She started becoming a good woman again. But showed her true colours after getting fired from job by Anuj.
Samar Shah aka Bakuda/Rockstar Beta/Samu/Mr.LOL/Cute Idiot/Samar Buddy[5][edit]
The 2nd male lead of show. He's Anu and Vanraj's younger son, Toshu and Pakhi's brother, Kanta, Leela and Hasmukh's younger ggrandson, brother-in-law and sworn brother to Kinjal, Nandini's love interest. He's called Bakuda and Rockstar Beta by Anu, Mr.LOL and Samu by Nandini, Cute Idiot by Bapuji and Samar Buddy by Mamaji and Anuj. He's an excellent Tap Dancer and can do Indian Classical Dance also. He's a rising choreographer. People can't took their eyes off while seeing his mesmerizing dance. He loves and supports Anu more than his life. He's a true gentleman who didn't goes against a woman for Society's unfair norms, doesn't judge any woman because of past and doesn't raise hand on a woman. His love towards Anu, dance and true gentlemanship were the principle reasons behind Nandini forgetting her bitter past and falling in love with him. He was considered son by Vanraj for his own Selfish needs. And was humiliated since childhood with words like Loser and other cheap words by Vanraj, Leela, Toshu and Pakhi for his passion for dance. However Anu then Nandini and Kinjal supported him to follow his dreams. He shut everyone's mouth by getting a job at reputed dance institute. He loves Nandini in the same way he loves Anu. He was first having a one-sided love for Nandini and was shattered after her refusal. However they decided to continue their relationship as friends and he didn't crossed any limits and kept loving her without any expectations. After coming to know about Nandini's past accident which left her infertile after accidentally reading her diary his love towards her increased. He even came to know about her hidden feelings for him but he continued loving her without any expectations even then. He completely supported his mother in her divorce proceedings. And went against whole family for both most important women in his life who are indeed the reason for him to live. He successfully established his and Anu and Nandini's dream Anupamaa Dance Academy by his and Nandini's hard work and Anu's ideas. He was initially shattered after coming to know about Nandini's past love Rohan who left her after her accident. But managed to become normal again after Anu's support. He and Nandini successfully fought her obsessive lover Rohan even after he depressing Nandini and trying to kill Samar. He is more than a friend and less than a sin-figure to Anuj since the time they first met when Anuj saved an emotionally depressed Samar. He's the only one who understood Anuj's pure one-sided love towards Anu and convinced her to not break her friendship with Anuj. He even prays to get Anu and Anuj united. He hates Vanraj and Kavya from the core of his heart for deceiving Anu. But doesn't hesitate to support them if finds them right. He's co-owner of Anupamaa Dance Academy and provided space for Vanraj's café on Anu's insistence.
Nandini Iyer aka Nandu/Ms.LOL[6][edit]
The 2nd female lead of show. She's Kavya's USA returned distant niece, Samar's love interest and Toshu's sworn sister. Though she's South Indian from her father's side. But inherited only Gujarati people qualities for being a daughter to Gujarati mother who raised her single handedly post divorce. She's called both Ms.LOL and Nandu by Samar and Nandu by rest family members. She's an excellent Indian Classical Dancer and can do Tap Dance also. She's a rising choreographer like Samar. She established her, Samar and Anu's dream Anupamaa Dance Academy by her and Samar's hard work and Anu's ideas. She's like a best friend to Kinjal and Pakhi. She hates Kavya for deceiving Anu and loves Anu like her own mother. She's very helping in nature. Her dance, love towards Anu and helping nature were the principle reasons for Samar falling in love with her. But his love increased after coming to know about her past accident which left her infertile. She was shattered after Rohan left her and used to think all boys as same and refused to believe in love again. But her thinking changed after meeting Samar and seeing his nature and pure love towards her which eventually lead her to fall in love with him. She became depressed after Rohan arrived as her obsessive lover again and tried to kill Samar. But fought with him by Samar's support.

Kinjal Dave Shah aka Kinju [7][edit]
She's Toshu's wife, Anupamaa and Vanraj's daughter-in-law, Pramod and Rakhi's daughter, sister-in-law to both Samar and Pakhi, sworn sister to Samar. She's very sweet by nature even after belonging to a rich family. Her sweet nature was the principle reason behind Toshu falling in love with her. She loves Anu more than Rakhi and often rebukes Rakhi for her insensitive behaviour towards Shahs. She hates Kavya for deceiving Anu. She always support Anu.
Paritosh "Toshu" Shah[8][edit]
He's Kinjal's husband, Anupamaa and Vanraj's elder son, Samar and Pakhi's elder brother, Nandini's sworn brother, Rakhi and Pramod's son-in-law, Kanta, Leela and Hasmukh's eldest grandson. He always humiliates Anu and Samar. He mended his ways for some time. But again showed his true colours. He even taunted Samar and Kinjal for supporting Anu in her divorce proceedings.
Pakhi Shah aka Sweety[9][edit]
Anupamaa and Vanraj's darling daughter. Initially shown to be spoilt brat who used to insult Anupamaa and Samar. Now a completely grown up girl. Who understand what's right and what's wrong.
Hasmukh Shah aka Bapuji/Cool Dude [10][edit]
Vanraj and Dolly's father. Leela's husband. Anupamaa's former and Kavya's current father-in-law. Toshu, Samar, Pakhi and Meenu's grandfather . A man with high morals. Always stands up against wrongdoings done to Anu and Samar. He considers Anu as his daughter. He's fondly called Cool Dude by Samar.
Leela Shah aka Baa [11][edit]
Vanraj and Dolly's mother. Jignesh's sister. Anupamaa's former and Kavya's current mother-in-law. Toshu, Samar, Pakhi and Meenu's grandmother. A lady with regressive thinking blind in son's love. Who can't see anyone growing above her son.
Jignesh aka Mamaji/Mama Buddy [12][edit]
Leela's brother. Vanraj and Dolly's uncle. Though he foregets things. But he always take stand for right. He considers Anu as his daughter. He's fondly called Mama Buddy by Samar.

Vanraj's sister. Sanjay's wife. Meenu's mother. She always take stand for right things. And consider Anu as her sister.

Dolly's husband. Meenu's father. A man with high morals. Who always support right things. He considers Anu as his sister.

A sweet little munchkin. Dolly and Sanjay's daughter. Leela and Hasmukh's youngest grandaughter. He loves Anu immensely. And Anu is more like a mother to her.

Kinjal's mother. Pramod's wife. An egoistic lady who judges everyone on the basis of education and financial status . An overprotective mother to Kinjal. Often humiliates Anu, Samar, Bapuji, Mamaji, Nandini and Pakhi for which she gets rebuked by Kinjal.

Kinjal's father. Rakhi's husband. A kind hearted man. Who supports right and rebukes Rakhi for her insensitive behaviour. She's often called Naagin by Baa for her rough behaviour.

Anu and Bhavesh's mother. Toshu, Samar, Pakhi and Nihaar's grandmother. A kind hearted woman. Who supports her daughter.

Bhavesh's son. Kanta's youngest grandson. He's Anu's darling. And best friend-cum-brother to Meenu, Samar and Pakhi.

Anu's childhood best friend and Anuj's college days friend. She was among initial people who realised Vanraj's affair and supported Anu. She gives it back to Baa, Toshu, Kavya and Vanraj. And immensely loves Samar, Pakhi, Kinjal and Nandini as her own children. Bapuji, Mamaji and GK as fathers.
Gopichandra Karodia aka GK, Gopi Kaka[21][edit]
Anuj's househelp and foster father. He always supports Anu and Anuj. Loves Samar like his grandson. And hates Anu's rivals for their cheap mentality.

Nandini's former boyfriend and obsessive lover. He left her after her accident. And returned back as her obsessive lover. He failed many times to separate SaNan. He was the one who made Samar mentally depressed that he was about to meet with a deadly accident. When failed he depressed Nandini regarding Samar's safety and tried to kill Samar and Anupamaa both to get back Nandini. He was shood away from Anu and SaNan's life easily by Anuj when he revealed about latter's father's scam when latter was a child and fleed away to USA.
Parul Sharma [25][edit]
Pakhi's school principal. Devika's former sister-in-law. A kind hearted lady who allowed Anu to move on as a cooking teacher in her school after seeing her culinary skills at fun fair.

A Video blogger who visited Vanraj's cafe with her friend to review it as normal customer. Though they were irritated by Kavya's rude behaviour towards normal customers. But gave 5 stars to it for Anu's food and hospitality.
