Long-suffering wife

The long-suffering wife is a stock character of film, television, plays, and literature. She is romantically linked to the main character and must constantly deal with his unusual or even illegal activities or social blunders. The woman does not necessarily hide her frustration, but eventually finds it in her heart to forgive the man – or, alternatively, finds a way to rationalize the husband's behavior so that they can both continue their lives.
