Lord's Legacy Life Ministries

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The mission of Lord's Legacy Life Ministries is to support those with intellectual and developmental disabilities by loving them like Jesus, challenging them to grow, and equipping them to thrive.

Lord's Legacy Life Ministries[1] was made to serve those with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families in the greater areas of Fayette and Jessamine Counties in Kentucky, USA. Supports are paid through the Kentucky Waiver System[2] through the Department for Medicaid Services[3] (Supports for Community Living) (Michelle P. Waiver) (State . Which are used to pay the staff who provide supports!

History[edit]

Lord's Legacy was founded in 2007 by the Maders. After adopting their daughter Dawn who needed services they decided to make thier own agency to ensure the best services could be provided. This extended to others in the community soon after and has grown to support over 100+ individuals over the years.

Waivers Supported at Lord's Legacy Life Ministries[edit]

What are Waivers?[edit]

A waiver from the Department of Medicaid Services are used to pay the staff to provided services.

As you can imagine, there are more individuals who wish to receive supports than spots available on each waiver so there is a *waiting list.[edit]

*You can apply to be on more than one waiver.

  • SCL2 is the longest of waiting lists because it had the coveted Residential Supports and is a 24 hour support. Wait list 7+ years. Once approved for this waiver (If you were on the MPW or SGF you will be taken off of those waivers. Don't worry though cause this waiver provides all the services that the other 2 provide plus residential supports.)
  • MPW was created because of the long waiting list for SCL2. It provides 40 hours a week of supports. Wait list 3+ years. (If you were on the SGF you will be taken off. Don't worry though cause this waiver provides all the services that SGF provide plus more.)
  • SGF is a extra fund created to help those on the above 2 waiting lists. It provides minimal supports for 2-3 days a week while waiting for approval on one of the other lists.

What most people do is apply for both the SCL2 an MPW and then get SGF until they are approved for MPW. The SGF drops once approved for MPW. Once approved for SCL2 they would then drop the MPW.

What about emergencies? There are emergency services provided to those homeless or without proper care in their current homes.

Supports are listed below and what services are available under each one.[edit]

Does being approved for a Medicaid Waiver affect your Social Security?[edit]

Nope! If you are receiving Social Security you can continue to receive it. The only stipulation is making sure your account balance remains under $2000, otherwise the individual would be taken off of the waiver. All other money would need to be put into a special needs fund and can continue to grow.

The only instance of a person losing their social security would be if they got a job and were working a certain amount of hours or making a certain amount of money. In that case they end up making more money than social security was paying them.

What are the Supports?[edit]

Residential Supports - SCL2[edit]

Through residential supports individuals are able to live in staffed homes with 2 other people. Staff help clean, cook, etc. to support those living in the home. Many of the residents grow close and form a new family! Homes are either male or female homes.

Nutritional Supports - SCL2[edit]

In the residential homes some all of the residents receive Nutritional Supports in helping with meal planning. Some receive specialized meals based on dietary needs.

Community Access - SCL2 (in Residential Supports)[edit]

This support is focused on integrating those with intellectual and developmental disabilities into the community through volunteering and groups.

Day Training Supports - SCL2, MPW, and SGF[edit]

At Day Training individuals come to spend time with friends and learn life skills. They also bring in guest speakers and have presentations on subjects from math to cooking.

Community Living Supports - MPW and SGF[edit]

Community Living Supports is similar to Day Training in learning life skills but is more focused on community involvement and advocacy. Community Supports is also one-on-one supports as oppose to group.

Personal Assistance - SCL2 if living with a relative/guardian (not in Residential Supports)[edit]

If someone is on the SCL2 waiver and is living with a relative or guardian but also wanted supports similar to Community Living Supports they could receive Personal Assistance. Which is basically the same thing just under a different name since it is on a different waiver.

Respite - MPW and SGF[edit]

Respite is simply caring for an individual with intellectual or developmental disabilities while their guardian is away. This is a somewhat limited support as it only has so much money allotted to it for the entire year. If a individual were to use up all of the money they would not be eligible to continue receiving the support until the next term year.

Supported Employment[edit]

This helps set up an individual with intellectual or developmental disabilities with continued care at a job. Some one to come ensure the American Disabilities Act is being followed at a workplace.
