MC Steppa

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

MC Steppa (the stage name of Ronnie Pye) is a British MC, probably best known for his many collaborations with various Happy Hardcore & Drum'n'Bass DJs, as well as other artists on various record labels. Notable collaborations include those with DJ Slipmatt, DJ Supreme, DJ Brisk and DJ Hype. He is notable for his distinct vocal style, his ability to provoke a crowd reaction by sounding energetic and creating atmospheres on top of dance tracks.[1][2]

Life and career

Ronnie Pye grew up in Ainsdale, Southport, England, listening to the family record collection, absorbing a variety of vocal styles and musical genres. He attributes this eclectic development of his musical tastes to his unique style. When developing his own tastes, the early electro scene was well favoured. This involvement with urban street music moved Steppa towards the hip hop scene and sparked his desire to make music himself. Picking up a microphone, Steppa began to rap for a local hip hop band and started to develop an individual style.

Unfortunately, British hip hop was not developing its own individuality, and Steppa took his vocal talents elsewhere. The early rave scene was the ideal opportunity for MCs to develop, and Steppa wasted no time in getting his talent out there. He was initially booked by local Rave organisations, and then his horizons were broadened. By 1993 he was being booked by all the leading rave organisations, Raindance, Fantazia, Helter Skelter and Dreamscape, to name a few.

In 1996 he hosted an event for 4,000 people at the Royal Bath and West Showground.

After this, he attended multiple events throughout the UK, most notably at the Royal Bath and West Showground and the Sanctuary Music Arena.

He has held several residencies at various clubs throughout his 20-year career and continues to do so.
