Josh Carling commonly known as MONXX, is an English dubstep producer and a DJ, from Peterborough, United Kingdom.[1] He is commonly known for his track "The Wonky Song". Carling also has composed tracks in the Drum and Bass, Hip Hop and Grime genres.[2] Carling is the founder of the record label "WONXX Promotions".[3]

Career[edit]

Carling was 14 years old, when he got into making UK Grime Instrumentals, which he sold online.[4] He said that his stagename, Monxx, was thought up by writing down random words on paper.[4] He moved from producing grime to other genres including Dubstep, Drum and bass, Bassline, Hip Hop and Electro.[5] Carling primarily used FL Studio for production of his music.[6]

In July, 2017,[7][8] Carling collaborated with Herobust to release the single "Giant Squiddim".[9] Monxx also collaborated with the dubstep producer Barron.[10]

In December 2017, Carling released "The Wonky Song" featuring Walter Wilde,[11][12] which became one of the most notable riddim-dubstep tracks of all.[13] Future on the track got remixed by Excision.[14][not in citation given] Carling also made a remix of Datsik's track "Scum".[15]

Carling's first tour was around America in 2017.[16] Carling performed in Countdown 2017 which is hosted in San Bernardino, California.[17][18]

In 2018, Carling performed in the SXSW Music Festival.[19] Carling in the same year appeared in the Snails’ Sluggtopia II music festival.[20] He also remixed Skrillex's track Make It Bun Dem, which was played in his opening set for the Fuji Rock Festival.[21]

In 2019, 12th Planet collaborated with Carling to release the track Ribbit, which is on 12th Planet's Swamplex ExtraTerrestrial EP.[22] Excision released his Lost Lands 2019 Compilation, in which Carling is featured on.[23][24]

In 2020, Carling will perform at the Beyond Wonderland festival, which takes place on the 20th and 21st of March.[25][26] Carling will also preform at the 2020 Phoenix Lights Festival, alongside producers such as Borgore, Afrojack, Alesso and many others.[27][28]

Controversy[edit]

Carling has been a controversial figure, for cancelling numerous shows in 2018.[29][30] Producers like Ookay and Trampa criticized Carling for not finishing collaborations.[31]
