History
Mach Speed Technologies was founded in 1989 by Bill Howell. The company was originally created to sell motherboards to technology-focused companies such as IBM and Tandy. In 1999, Mach Speed started producing its Mp3 player devices, with brands such as Eclipse, Trio and Oasis, and adding more throughout the years. In 2005, Mach Speed added Internet tablets to its product line.
Mach Speed liked to promote their devices as American made, with the phrase "Buy American-Buy Mach Speed" while claiming to be one of the only American-owned and operated motherboard suppliers, even though they admitted that all the manufacturing of most of their products was done in Taiwan or China.
Mach Speed was bought out in 2010 by then start-up, Apollo Brands. They were brought along with another company, Jlab, an audio device manufacturer. Apollo purchased all assets of Mach Speed and kept the brand on their Mp3 and tablet products until 2013. In 2013, Apollo absorbed the Mach Speed Technologies brand and removed its label from all future products, eventually removing Mach Speed from its official product list, and is now slowly removing all Mach Speed related webpages.[1][2][3]
