On October 3, 2022, Mahan Air Flight 81, a regularly scheduled international passenger flight from Iran to China, operated by Mahan Air using an Airbus A340, faced a bomb threat which turned out to be a hoax/scare.[1][2]

Incident[edit]

At 9:20 am Indian Standard Time,[3] Delhi air traffic control was informed by Lahore air traffic control of a bomb threat on flight W581.[4]

The flight was around 200 kilometres (120 mi) from Delhi at this time.[5] A holding pattern was held for about 45 minutes during which the flight was refused permission to land at Delhi, and the pilots declined to land at two alternate airports.[5][6] Four Indian Air Force fighter aircraft were scrambled during the incident.[5][7]

Tehran conveyed that the bomb was to be "disregarded".[8][2]

Dozens of emergency service vehicles and personnel were present at the airport as the airport landed in China.[9]
