Mahanga Puspagiri Mahavidyalaya (abbreviated M.P. Mahabidyalaya) is an esteemed educational institution situated in the town of Mahanga, located in the Cuttack district of Odisha, India. It was established in 1982 with the objective of providing quality education to the students of the region and preserving the area's rich cultural heritage. The college is named after the ancient Buddhist University of Puspagiri Mahavihar, which was situated in Lalitgiri, Udayagiri, and Ratnagiri.

Mahanga Puspagiri Mahavidyalaya is situated 45km east of Cuttack and is surrounded by lush green fields and a flowing rivulet called "Maijora." The college is located in a serene and sublime environment, which makes it an ideal location for education. The area is well-connected with improved transport and communication systems, making it easily accessible to neighboring places such as Salipur, Kuanpal, Balichandrapur, Chhatia, and Kendrapara.

The lack of facilities for higher education in the area was a persistent problem that concerned educationists, social workers, political leaders, and freedom fighters. To address this issue, a general body meeting was held in 1982 under the leadership of SK. Matlub Ali, resulting in the establishment of Mahanga Puspagiri Mahavidyalaya on June 5, 1982, on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Trutiya. The college was supported by several noble-minded and enlightened persons in the locality.

Mahanga Puspagiri Mahavidyalaya, located in Erakana, Cuttack, was established on June 5, 1982, with 128 seats for I.A. Class. The college received direct affiliation and had compulsory subjects of English and MIL(O) with optional subjects of Oriya, History, Political Science, Education, Economics & Sociology. The college received affiliation from the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Odisha in 1983-84. The government granted permission to increase seats in various subjects and for +2 Science and Arts with English and MIL(O) as compulsory subjects. The college received permanent concurrence for the mentioned subjects with 256 and 128 seats and affiliation from CHSE in the same year.
Graduation[edit]
In 1987-88, the government of Odisha approved a three-year degree course in Arts with subjects like English, M.I.L(O), Political Science, Economics, Oriya, History, and Education. In 1990-91 and 1991-92, the government granted temporary recognition for an increase in seats and the opening of Sociology. In 1993-94, permanent concurrence and affiliation were obtained from Utkal University. In the same year, temporary recognition was granted for the opening of Honours in Oriya, Economics, History, and Political Science, an increase in Education Pass seats, and the opening of Sociology. In 2000-2001, the government granted temporary recognition for the opening of Education and Sociology Honours and +3 Science with compulsory English and M.I.L(O) and optional subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology. In the +3 Arts stream, subjects like Indian Society and culture, Environmental Studies/Population Studies/Computer Applications were introduced as per the new course structure of Utkal University. In the +3 Science stream, subjects like Indian Society and Culture, and Information Technology/Environmental Studies were introduced to promote an inter-disciplinary approach from the 2002-2003 admission batch.
