Maheshwer Peri (born in August 1969)[1] is an Indian career counsellor who owns and publishes the Careers 360 magazine. He was one of the key figures behind the shutting down of the Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM) for the institute's use of false advertisements and fraudulent practices.[2][1] He was with Outlook magazine for more than a decade.
Early life and education[edit]
Peri was born in Andhra Pradesh. [1]His father worked in the Hyderabad civil court. When Peri's father died when Peri was 17 years old, Peri had the option of taking up his father's job but Peri chose to continue his education rather than take up his father's government job.[1]
Peri is a graduate in economics and mathematics.[1] He became a chartered accountant at the age of 21 topping the CA exams in the State of Andhra and ranking 23rd overall in India.[1]
Career[edit]
Peri's first job was as an investment banker with SBI Capital Markets. Peri's next job was with Rajan Raheja's Hathaway Investments in 1995. When Raheja launched Outlook magazine, Peri started working there in the finance department but eventually rose to the position of publisher of the magazine. During his time at Outlook, the magazine became one of the first Indian magazines to publish rankings of business schools and other educational institutions.[1] He held this position for eight years and during that time period, Peri launched more magazines and also a books division.[1]
After working with Outlook magazine for 17 years.[1] Peri started his venture, Careers 360 in March 2009. He eventually left Outlook as the president and publisher in March 2012. Even before the publication of the first edition of his new magazine, Arindam Chaudhuri of IIPM had filed a legal suit against Peri in a New Delhi court. Eventually, Peri had cases filed against him by Chaudhuri in courts in Guwahati, Patiala, as well as Dehradun. Chaudhuri eventually withdrew all cases against Peri in early 2016 as the Supreme Court of India was about to rule on Peri's petition that cases filed against him in Assam be transferred to a court in Delhi.[3]
Careers 360 also had a Hindi edition.[4][5] He also runs the website careers360.com.[6]
