Shaykh Maḥmud Al-Ḥasan Al-Azhari (Bengali: শায়খ মাহমুদুল হাসান, Arabic: الشيخ محمود الحسن‎; born 15 June 1976) is a renowned British-Bangladeshi Muslim Scholar, TV presenter, journalist[1][2][3], media personality, author[4] and Islamic scholar.[5] He is also director of TV One UK.[6]

Also, a well-known prolific writer-researcher and analyst. He is best known for presenting Jibon Jiggasha on NTV and TV One.

Early life and education[edit]

Mahmudul Hasan was born into a Bengālī Muslim family in the village of Hinguli in Mirsharai Thana, Chittagong District. He was the youngest child of Ḥājī Muḥammad Ilyās and Laylah Akhtar.

In 1993, he got the highest mark in the Takmīl (Dawra-e-Hadīth) exams across the Wifāq al-Madāris al-ʿArabiyyah Bangladesh board. He also got the highest mark in his B.A. and M.A. from Arabic and Islamic Studies Department of Chittagong University. (Mimbarer Dhoni)

Hasan has a first-class M.A and B.A in ʿArabic.[7][8][9] In 1999, Hasan graduated with a licentiate degree from Al-Azhar University. In 2000, he graduated in a Diploma in Islamic philosophy from Cairo University. In 2006, he completed an M.A in Islamic studies at Loughborough University.[10][11]

Career[edit]

Shaykh Mahmudul Hasan was born on 15 June 1976.[12][13] in Chittagong city of Bangladesh.[14] He started his career as a teacher at Al Jamia Al Islamia Patia (Bengali: আল জামিয়া আল ইসলামিয়া পটিয়া).[15]

He has worked at assistant professor at Chittagong University and lecturer in Islamic studies at International Islamic University Chittagong.[10] He is currently studying for a PhD at the Institute of Education, University of London.[7][8]

Currently he is the Grand Imam-Khatib and Principal of The Essex Jamme Masjid and Academy in Southend-On-Sea, England.[16][17] He is also a Doctoral Research Fellow at the University of London, UCL Institute of Education.[18][19]
