Mainak Misra (5 Msy 1987) is an Indian film director, film producer, and screenwriter.[1]
Early Life and Background[edit]
Mainak was born in a remote village Shitla in Bankura district of West Bengal. He was a fan of cricket and Sachin Tendulkar throughout his school days,[1] and he intended to settle down in Kolkata. After reading a wall newspaper report about Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami[1] on 24th Nov, 2007 in Jadavpur, Kolkata, he was inspired to involve himself in the field of filmmaking.
Career[edit]
Mainak made a human-documentary The Virtue of a Shadow [1] on the lives of AIDS infected orphans. The documentary was made to increase public awareness of AIDS and was screened on 1st December, 2012 on the occasion of World AIDS Day in Hyderabad.
In 2017 Mainak created a short film Days of Marigolds,[2][3] a story of longing, memories, cycle of life, reflections, dreams, hope and nostalgia. It was screened at several international film festivals.
Cinematic style[edit]
Mainak's films involve the lives and emotions of ordinary people and show through detailed and accurate depiction of their surroundings how deeply these affect the development of character. His films, which include reflections of his own personal life, show human emotions through non-linear allegorical and surreal storytelling, long takes, panoramic extreme long shots, and montage.
