The Makki Masjid (Hindi: मक्की मस्जिद गोरखनाथ, Urdu: مکی مسجد گورکھ ناتھ) is commonly known as The Jama Masjid in Gorakhpur (UP) INDIA situated in the center of the main city. One of the oldest masjids of Gorakhpur city.
History of Masjid
The mosque was built during the Mughal period, about 350 years old. According to local people, during the time of the Mughal Empire, when the emperors used to travel, they used to stay. They used to build mosques there. Here too, the Mughals built mosques. At that time, only 300 to 400 people were able to offer namaz in the mosque together. When the number increased, the new mosque replaced the old mosque. People say that the dome of the old mosque was so strong that hundreds of people took 6 to 8 days to break it.
Architecture
The mosque has three doors for entry. The first one is on the north side, the second one is on the east side, and the third one, passing through the mosque, leads out onto the highway on the west side. Its carving has been done so that air can come from all sides. The mosque has two large minarets of 30 feet each, and there are two small minarets also which are mounted on top of the north doors. The floor is made from white marble (SangeMarMar). There is a wudu khana where 50 people can perform wudu together easily.
