Manas Kumar Ghosh (Bengali:মানস কুমার ঘোষ) is an Indian scholar of film studies, currently working as a professor in Jadavpur University in the department of film studies.[1][2][3] He is a specialist in Contemporary Asian Cinema(s), Third Cinema, Documentary Film History, and encounters between different cultures.[4][5][6]

Early life and education[edit]

Ghosh was born in West Bengal, India. He studied chemistry from University of Burdwan in 1944 and opted for Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism & Mass Communication from the same in 1998. Later in 2000, he joined Jadavpur University, Kolkata for pursuing M.A in film studies and then did his PhD from the same in 2011.[7][8]

Career[edit]

After his post-graduation from the Jadavpur University, he was first appointed as a guest faculty at department of Mass Communication & Videography, Rabindra Bharati University in 2003, where he worked until 2005. He remained involved with other Universities as a guest faculty from 2005-2019 such as department of Mass Communication, St. Xaviers’ College, Kolkata, Centre for Media Studies, University of Calcutta, department of English, Bethune College, Kolkata, department of Sociology, West Bengal State University, Barasat, department of Adult Continuity Education and Extension, Jadavpur University and many more.[8]
