Manfred van Rey
Manfred van Rey (born 1940) is a German historian and archivist.
Life
Born in Aachen, he studied history and Latin at the Universität Bonn and gained his doctorate in 1974 under Eugen Ewig, with a thesis on early medieval history.[1] From 1977 to 1980 he was a wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter of the archives of the Rhein-Sieg-Kreis.[2] Subsequently, Rey moved to the Bonn City Archive in the same function, where he also became deputy head;[3] from 1990 until his retirement in 2002, he was head of the city archive.[4] In this function, he created a collection of photographs on the history of the city of Bonn as the federal capital.[5] From 2005 to 2013, he was chairman of the sponsoring association of the Memorial for the Bonn Victims of National Socialism.[6]
Rey is the author of numerous publications on the history of the city of Bonn as well as on the history of Jews in the region. He was a board member until 2010[7] and is a member of the board of trustees of the association Bürger für Beethoven[8] as well as a long-standing member of the Heimatverein Oberdollendorf und Römlinghoven.[9] Rey was also founding director of the Stadtmuseum Bonn.
