Artistic Work[edit]

Marc Schmitz explores the basics of the various media he uses and pushes them to their limits. Central themes of the artistic work are space and time. The ongoing international project Spaces examines perception in relation to space and the human body, with exhibitions on the Sculpture Quadrennial Riga and Zendai MoMA Shanghai Himalayas Museum (2008), Land Art New Mexico USA (2009), Trio Bienal, Rio de Janeiro (2015) Nakanojo Biennial, Japan (2015) and Arts in Marrakech (AiM) International Biennale, Morocco (2016).

In his painting, layers of color document the processual nature of time. His works convey sensuality and reflection, inviting the viewer to engage in a mutually constructive dialogue while engaging the boundless space with all of the viewer's senses. One work cycle is the series La Divina Commedia, which includes about 130 individual works of painting.[6]

His work has been shown internationally, including: New Mexico in 2009, Perth, Australia in 2010, the 2017 Folkestone Triennial and Jeju Biennial, the 2019 Bangkok Biennial.[7][8][9][10][11]
