Marina Kazimirovna Osipova, Ph.D. (Russian: Осипова Марина Казимировна) is a Russian American, choreographer, ballet instructor, artistic director, and the author of methodology manuals and numerous scientific articles on classical dance.[1][2][3]

Education[edit]

From 1984 to 1992, Marina Osipova studied at the Vaganova Ballet Academy as a ballet dancer.

In 2000, she began studying for the Master’s Degree at the Vaganova Ballet Academy.[1] In 2005, Osipova successfully graduated the academy and started a career as a ballerina.

Professional experience and career[edit]

Following her graduation, she joined the Russian Ballet company in St. Petersburg. In 1997, she became a member of the Mikhailovsky State Opera and Ballet Theatre. She joined the faculty at the Vaganova Academy in 2001 and complete her Ph.D. in Ballet. In 2013-2015, Marina Osipova was Head of the department of classical dance in Boris Eifman Ballet Academy.[4] From 2015 to 2018, Osipova collaborated with the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts as an Associate Professor of the Department of Choreography, in the subject Classes of Classical Dance Teaching.[1]

In 2018, Osipova and her family moved to the USA after receiving an invitation from a ballet school in California. In 2021, she founded her own dance school, Vaganova method Ballet Academy based in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Membership, books and awards[edit]

Marina Osipova is the author of several books and research papers on ballet teaching methodology.[5] Marina Osipova's book on ballet teaching methodology can be found at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.[6]

Marina Osipova's students have won prizes in ballet competitions.[7] In particular, Ekaterina Pichkova won the Grand Prix of the ADC IBC competition in 2022.[8]

In 2020, Osipova was a member of the jury of the Wave of Success (Russian: "Волна успеха") International Choreographic Art Competition.[9]

Marina Osipova is a member of the International Dance Council (UNESCO).[10]
