Martin (Hangul: 마틴; born March 20, 2008) is a South Korean-Canadian singer, rapper, songwriter and record producer. He is the leader and main producer of the boy band Cortis under Big Hit Music, which debuted on August 18, 2025.[1] Before his debut, he established a notable individual profile as a songwriter and producer for other Big Hit-affiliated acts, including Illit, Enhypen, and Tomorrow X Together.[1]

Career

2024: Songwriting and production credits

Martin joined Big Hit Music as a trainee at a young age. During his training period, he began writing and producing music, submitting demos that were eventually selected for other Hybe artists.[2] He is credited as a songwriter and producer on Illit's debut hit "Magnetic", Enhypen's "Outside", and Tomorrow X Together's "Beautiful Strangers".[1] In a 2025 interview, Martin recalled his surprise upon learning from his father that "Magnetic" had successfully entered the Billboard charts in the United States.[3]

2025–present: Debut with Cortis and fashion

Martin debuted as the leader of Cortis on August 18, 2025, with the group's first extended play, Color Outside the Lines.[1] The EP achieved a first-day sales record for a K-pop act debuting in 2025 and entered the Billboard 200.[4] As the group's main producer, Martin is recognized for driving their musical direction, often incorporating punk influences and experimental textures.[5]

In May 2026, Martin was featured in a solo fashion editorial for W Korea, collaborating with Saint Laurent.[6] The feature discussed his artistic growth and his role as the "solid central axis" of Cortis, highlighting his involvement in the creation of their second EP, GreenGreen.[6]

Artistry

Martin has cited Tyler, the Creator, Mac Miller, and psychedelic rock acts like Tame Impala and Nirvana as major influences on his musical taste and production style.[3][4] Dazed has described him as a "music buff leader" with a distinct artistic vision.[5]
