The Massacre of Oromo soldiers in Dessie is an unverified claim made in a post by a pseudonymous user on a news and opinion discussion forum during the Tigray War, on 26 October 2021. The post claims members of Fano (militia) killed officers of the ENDF. Fano and ENDF are allies in the war.
Web forum post[edit]
The post on the news and opinion section of the website Mereja.com says fano (militia) killed four to ten Oromo soldiers of the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) in Dessie (South Wollo) on 26 October 2021.[1] The message, which was posted during.a TPLF offensive on the city of Dessie, includes TPLF slogans and messages from it's leaders. It alleged the fano (militia) tried to prevent ENDF units from leaving the battlefront and focussed their anger on military personnel from Oromia and other southern parts of Ethiopia. The allegation occured in the context of accusations of disinformation [2].
Another post dated October 24 on Pakistani website irshagdul.com claims there was fighting between "Al Amhra" and the Ethiopian army [3]. That article misspells the name of the capital of Tigray as "Makli" and incorrectly places it near the border with Sudan, and cites a previously unheard of person named "Kitago" as spokesperson for the "Tigray front".
Perpetrators[edit]
The pseudonymous author of the post, using the username "yaballo" on Mereja, claims the perpetrators of this alleged massacre are Fano.[1]
Victims[edit]
Up to ten victims of this massacre are mentioned, four of whom have been identified:[1]
- Commander Ahmed Abraham
- Commander Girma Feyisa
- Colonel Habtamu Megersa
- Colonel Abdisa Adugna
