Matias Nunez Cabral 1531-15? was an Portuguese nobleman.
Biography[edit]
Matias Nunez Cabral was born in 1531 in the Azores, Portugal.[1] He was the son of Nuno Lourenço Velho Cabral and Catarina Vaz Martins, a descendant of Alvaro Martins. Matias Nunez Cabral married María Simões de Melo on the island,[2] and they had two daughters Margarita Cabral de Melo and Inés Nunes Cabral who settled in Buenos Aires in 1598.[3]
He was a descendant of the kings of Portugal,[4] and the King of France Robert II. Other ancestors are Íñigo Arista of Pamplona, Fruela II of Asturias, Duncan I of Scotland, Henry II of England, and the Caliph of Córdoba Abd al-Rahman I. He was related to the discoverer of Brazil, Pedro Álvares Cabral.[5]
