Matthew Parker (teenager)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Matthew Parker is the name of a Englishman who died at the age of 19 in 1997 from vCJD.[1][2]

Synopsis[edit]

Parker was reputed to be the 17th victim in the UK of the disease.[1] His hometown was Armthorpe, near Doncaster.[3] Another young person from Armthorpe who had been at the same school as Matthew, Sarah Roberts, died too[3] in October 2000.[4] The first victim associated with their village, Adrian Hodgkinson, was claimed at age 24 in February 1997; this news was released two days after Sarah's obituary notice in the House of Commons by Rosie Winterton, the MP for Doncaster Central.[5] In 1996, the government of John Major officially recognised the disease once the tenth person had died from it.[3] His father, John Middleton, from Hallam Close, Filey participates in documentaries and foundations, in order to raise awareness of the problem.[3]

Symptoms[edit]

Middleton lost the power of speech and the ability to walk once the disease took hold.[1] A year prior to his death, his ability to walk was affected by pain in his knees. His speech degraded and was slurred. He shook and trembled. He started chewing his collar.[3]
