Matthew Senanou (born March 21, 2003) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a center back for MLS Next Pro club Colorado Rapids 2, the reserve affiliate of Major League Soccer club Colorado Rapids.
Early life
Senanou was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 21, 2003. His family is from Ghana and is affiliated with the Ewe tribe.[1]
College career
Senanou started his career at UNC Chapel Hill appearing in 3 games in 2021, and no games in 2022.[1] Before the 2023 season Senanou would transfer to Xavier University where he would play two seasons playing a total of 30 games. At the end of his junior year at Xavier, Senanou would be picked 6th overall in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft, the highest pick in Xavier's history.[2][3]
Club career
On December 20, 2024, Major League Soccer club Colorado Rapids picked Senanou sixth overall in the first round of the 2025 MLS SuperDraft after acquiring the pick earlier in the day from Nashville SC for $125,000 GAM, making Senanou the club's second pick in the first round.[4] On January 29, 2025, Senanou was signed by Colorado Rapids' MLS Next Pro affiliate, Colorado Rapids 2.[5]
