Melvyn Soffe (born in Southampton, England) is a former motorcycle speedway rider in National League (speedway)
Career[edit]
A near neighbour of Richard May, Melvyn Soffe was allowed to practice with his 250cc Grasstrack bike on the Reading Racers track at Smallmead, eventually being allowed to try the track spare bike. He managed rides in the second halves at several stadiums but not as a team rider. It was Weymouth Wizards (renamed Weymouth Wildcats in 1978)that signed him into the team under promoter Harry Davis (father of John Davis), where he received encouragement and support from Vic Harding.[1][2]
After speedway[edit]
He worked at Fawley refinery in the Petrochemical sector for a few years. In 1986 he joined a National Hire company as a Depot Manager, retiring in 2017. Married to Denise, they have a son and granddaughters. Home is in Southampton.
