Mental Transmission
Esoteric Origin[edit]
According to the late founder/president of The Aetherius Society a mental transmission is a form of 'advanced Telepathy' employed by one who is capable of entering a deep Samadhic state of trance in order to receive thought impulses from one 'intelligence' to another. This type of 'telepathic' mental contact differs, according to King (See: George King (Aetherius Society), from other types of mental mediumship in the degree of Trance required to 'channel higher intelligences'. George King first coined the term in early 1950's to describe the specific condition under which such communications were allegedly received by him as a 'Space Contactee'.[1] The Aetherius Society use the term 'Mental Transmission', 'Transmission' and 'Cosmic Transmission' synonymously.
Esoteric History with George King[edit]
The Aetherius Society was founded by the late George King in 1955 as a metaphysical, religious and spiritual organisation to promote a modern approach to spiritual living after the founder claimed to have spent some ten years previously practicing 'advanced yogic exercises' that allegedly enabled him to attain the highest states of consciousness possible on Earth. The Aetherius Society attempts to unite aspects of eastern mysticism, yoga and philosophy with the western theosophical and spiritualist approachs to human existence and meaning with a strong panentheistic approach to worshipping the Divine through various 'Cosmic Missions', which the Society claim to be an essential part of the 'Cosmic Plan' for this planet, and those who dwell upon Her.[2]
George king founded the Aetherius Society soon after his alleged mental contact with a 'Being from Venus', referred to by them as the 'Master Aetherius', after whom the society is named.[3] Over the course of many years George King claimed to to received over 600 Cosmic Transmissions from 'advanced intelligences from other worlds' including Mars, Venus, Jupiter and Saturn. These 'Transmissions' were classed as 'Mental Transmissions' by George King and were received through what the Aetherian's claim to be the 'unique mediumship' of their founder as 'Primary Terrestrial Mental Channel'.[4] While the Aetherian's state that George King wasn't the only 'channel' for 'Cosmic Beings' from other planets, he was the most the most important, as indicated by his title (allegedly given to him by 'Cosmic Beings' themselves).[5] Consequently these 'Mental Transmissions' were recorded for posterity and printed in several publications. During the 1950's and early 60's the main subject of these 'Transmissions' were on the dangers of atomic experimentation and the need for mankind to study and practice the 'only real democracy based on Wisdom'.[6]
While George King regarded the 'Mental or Cosmic Transmissions' as superior to other forms of mental mediumship in many ways he nevertheless stated that this was not the only method by which 'intelligence' could be conveyed from one individual to another and spoke about 'Mental Communications' as distinctly different from 'Mental Transmissions' after having claimed to have used both methods throughout his life. During a 'mental communication' the medium does not, says King, need to precipitate a deep positive yogic trance state in order to receive and translate the 'messages' from the 'Cosmic Masters' but can utilise a 'lighter conscious trance' as opposed to a 'deeper Samadhic Trance'.[7] (See: Samadhi) During a Mental Transmission George King allegedly used advanced yogic techniques to raise the psychic energy, known in the east as Kundalini, through the spine to a high psychic centre where it became possible to concentrate upon the carrier beam directed by the 'Space People' so that a full and accurate translation might be brought about in a detached manner for the benefit of posterity.[8] [9]
Related usage by Benjamin Creme[edit]
The esoteric concept of a 'Transmission' has been used by Benjamin Creme, founder of the Share International Organisation and editor of Share International magazine. Benjamin Creme claims to be in telepathic contact with an 'Ascended Master', known in theosophical circles, as the Lord Maitreya. [10] Along similar lines to George King's alleged 'Mental Transmissions' Benjamin Creme states that the 'Lord Maitreya' 'overshadows him' in such a way that certain energies might be released through him by Maitreya towards those present as a 'special blessing'.[11] Continuing along the same theme Benjamin Creme describes what he calls a 'Transmission Meditation' as part of his esoteric movement based on the early Teachings of the Aetherius Society. Many Internet sources erroneously state that Benjamin Creme was 'Vice-President of the Aetherius Society' which is incorrect, although he was a member in 1957 which explains the strong esoteric parallels.[12] [13] According to Creme a 'Transmission Meditation' is a simple procedure that anyone can adopt in order to serve the 'Masters' as 'channels for spiritual forces'. In contradistinction to George Kings 'Cosmic Tranmissions' anyone can join a 'Transmission Meditation Group' without precipitating a deep Samadhic Yogic Trance by adopting the 'Great Invocation' and by concentrating on a certain Psychic Centre and inwardly reciting a Mantra, although it's not clear in what manner and sequence, according to his publication 'Transmission Meditation - A Meditation for the New Age'. Through such a practice Benjamin Creme claims that one is able to relay the 'energies from the Masters' out to the world as a form of spiritual service.[14]
