Merlin Project (formerly marketed as Merlin in earlier releases) is a project management software for macOS and iOS developed by the German company ProjectWizards GmbH.[1][2]

The software supports hybrid project management across multiple views, including Gantt charts, Kanban boards and mind maps, alongside resource and budget management functions.[3]

    Hybrid project management

Hybrid project management combines elements from different project management approaches, such as waterfall planning and agile methods, within a single project. Instead of following one fixed methodology, hybrid approaches adapt planning techniques to the characteristics of the work and the project context.[4]

In Merlin Project, the same project data can be viewed and edited through different planning perspectives. Time-oriented planning can be reviewed using a Gantt chart, which is commonly associated with predictive or waterfall-based project management. For agile and flow-based approaches, Merlin Project provides a Kanban view that represents work as cards arranged in workflow columns and is typically associated with.[5]

    Editions

Merlin Project is the main product line for macOS, iPadOS and iOS.[2] Merlin Project Express is a separate edition for macOS.[6] Merlin Server was a separate server product and was discontinued in 2020.[7]

    History

The first versions of Merlin were released for Mac OS X in 2004.[8]Merlin 2 followed in 2006.[9]

An iPhone companion application was released in 2009.[10]

A separate server product, Merlin Server, was introduced to support server-based collaboration around project files.[11]

In 2014, ProjectWizards introduced the Merlin Project product line as the successor to the earlier Merlin releases.[12]

In 2016, ProjectWizards introduced Merlin Project Express as a separate macOS edition.[13]

A dedicated iPad edition of Merlin Project was released in 2019.[14]
