Michael Adhikari (Nepali: माइकल अधिकारी) is a 2022 Nepali film directed by Ranjeet Gupta under the banner of Gopikrishna Movies Pvt. Ltd.[1][2] It is the first Nepali film based on surrogacy.[3][4] The film stars Saugat Malla and Shristi Shrestha in a lead role, and it is scheduled to release on August 19, 2022.[5][6][7] It was also the first film to implement a scheme that allowed eSewa users to watch the film in theaters for only 1 rupee.[8][9]
Synopsis[edit]
The plot revolves around a couple who are struggling to live in the city due to financial constraints. Krishna (Saugat Malla) convinces his wife Sushma (Shristi Shrestha) to accept the offer to be a surrogate mother in order to earn money. The surrogate mother refuses to give a child away after giving birth.[3][10]

Soundtrack[edit]
Chhuk Chhuk Rail Gaadi was released on August 8, 2022. The music was composed by Revan Singh and sung by Pratap Das and Ashmita Adhikari. The song was filmed in the eastern part of Ilam.[11][12]
Fapar Ko Roti was released on August 16, 2022. The lyrics were written by Dayaram Pandey. Music was composed by Sambhujeet Baskota; sung by Baskota himself, along with Ravi Oad, and Tika Prasain.[13]

Reception[edit]
Sukrit Nepal from Gorkhapatra praised the story and the acting of both main actors. He also praised the director for his potential since it was only his debut film.[14]
Controversy[edit]
The trailer of the film has been criticized for being similar to Indian Hindi-language film Mimi.[15]
