Michael Clunan (born 28 January 1994) is an English professional footballer who plays for King's Lynn Town as a midfielder.

Career[edit]

Early Career[edit]

Born in King's Lynn, Norfolk, Clunan began his career by joining the youth system of Norwich City at eight years of age in 2002. In 2010, aged 16, he signed a full-time scholarship with the club. After 11 years at Norwich City, Clunan was released in 2013, aged 19, without making a senior appearance.[1]

Boston United and Histon[edit]

Following his release from Norwich City, Clunan signed for Conference North side Boston United ahead of the 2013/14 season.[2] But after just two appearances, he moved to divisional rivals Histon in October 2013. Clunan made 20 appearances, but the Cambridgeshire club were relegated.[3]

Dereham Town[edit]

Clunan spent the summer of 2014 with Lowestoft Town, but was not offered a contract and the chance to remain in the Conference North.[4] He instead returned to Norfolk, dropping two divisions to sign for Isthmian League Division One North side Dereham Town.[5]

King's Lynn Town[edit]

After just one season with Dereham Town, Clunan made the move to hometown club King's Lynn Town, ahead of their first season in the Southern Football League Premier Division.[6]

In his third season, King's Lynn Town were one game away from promotion to the National League North, falling to an 89th-minute defeat to Slough Town in the Southern Football League Premier Division Playoff Final.[7]

The following season, Clunan captained King's Lynn to promotion, defeating Warrington Town in extra time in the Super Playoff Final.[8]

The club made it back-to-back promotions in 2019/20, being crowned National League North champions when the season was ended prematurely by COVID-19.[9]

Disappointingly for Clunan and Lynn, after two years in the National League, the club were relegated at the end of the 2021/22 season.[10]
