Michael Kronenberg

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Michael Kronenberg is an American biologist best known for his work with genome structure. He is currently a junior professor at UCLA where he studies the role of genome structure in enhancer-based gene regulation.

Michael Kronenberg grew up in Stockton, California, where he attended St. Mary's High School. He attended Boston College for his undergraduate studies, where he received a B.A. in Biology. At BC, he worked as an undergraduate researcher in the lab of Dr. Hugh Cam, where he developed an interest in how cellular metabolism affects the processing of ketone bodies, and how this subsequently effects histone modification levels and stress-response programs in S. pombe. His time in the lab culminated in a well-received thesis titled, "Investigating the molecular role of Beta-Hydroxybutyrate in suppression of cellular oxidative stress".[1]

Kronenberg's current work at UCLA focuses on 3D structural control of the genome, with a focus on chromosome looping dynamics and how this mechanism is affected by cellular metabolic states.
