Miguel Ângelo Falcão de Oliveira (born 4 January 1995) is a Portuguese professional motorcycle racer who competes in the MotoGP World Championship. He is known for being the first Portuguese rider to win a MotoGP race and for his success across multiple classes of Grand Prix motorcycle racing.[1]

Racing Career

Oliveira's career progressed through the junior categories to the premier class, where he established himself as a prominent figure.

Moto3 and Moto2

Oliveira began his career in the smaller classes, showcasing his talent with consistent podium finishes and race wins.

  • 2015 Moto3 World Championship: He finished as the championship runner-up, securing six victories and nine podiums in a single season.[2]
  • 2018 Moto2 World Championship: He once again finished as the championship runner-up, with three victories and 12 podium finishes.[3]

MotoGP

Oliveira moved to the MotoGP class in 2019 and quickly made history for Portugal.

  • Historic Victories: He is the first Portuguese rider to win a MotoGP race, a feat he accomplished at the 2020 Styrian Grand Prix in Austria.[4] He later followed this with a victory at his home race, the 2020 Portuguese Grand Prix, solidifying his place as a national icon.
  • Career Tally: Throughout his career in MotoGP, he has secured multiple victories and podiums with different teams. He is a multiple-race winner in the premier class.[1]

Car Racing Career

In addition to his success in motorcycle racing, Miguel Oliveira has also ventured into car motorsports. As an ambassador for Hyundai Portugal, a partnership that began in 2018,[5] he competed in the Campeonato de Portugal de Velocidade (CPV) at the Vila Real Circuit.[6] Driving a Hyundai i30 N TCR, he achieved a double victory in 2022, a win he shared with his father, Paulo Oliveira. This event, which was part of the 51st International Vila Real Circuit, marked his return to four-wheel racing and highlighted his versatility as a driver.[7]

Personal Life

Miguel Oliveira married Andreia Pimenta in July 2021.[8] The couple have a unique story, having known each other since they were teenagers as Andreia is the daughter of Oliveira's stepmother.[9] They have two children, a daughter named Alice and a son named Pedro.[10]
