Mike Cronin (full name Michael A. Cronin, born October 14, 1998), also formerly known by the username MikesiOSHelp, is a technology enthusiast, video producer, and internet personality, best known for his Apple and technology-based YouTube channel youtube.com/Mike. The channel was created on January 26, 2010, with the original username of "MikesiPodHelp101," which was later changed and rebranded to "MikesiOSHelp" in November 2012, and was finally changed to "Mike Cronin" in the summer of 2014 across all social media platforms. As of October 2015[update], the channel has over 40,000 subscribers and over 8 million total video views.
Career
Cronin joined YouTube on January 26, 2010. Most videos produced by Cronin received fewer than 100 views each and mainly focused on news, rumors, and details about products made by Apple. Several months after creating his YouTube channel, he began to slowly gain viewership and a larger audience. In March 2012, a portion of Cronin's video from one of his iPad 3 rumor videos was featured in Gizmodo's The iPad 3 According to YouTube video.[1] Cronin's videos have been promoted by several other sites and many mobile accessory product companies.
Aside from making videos about the latest Apple news and rumors, his YouTube channel contains several mobile accessory reviews, featuring products from mophie, LifeProof, OtterBox, etc. Since 2013, Cronin has attended the annual VidCon YouTube conventions, hosted by John Green and Hank Green of the VlogBrothers YouTube channel.
In June 2014, while attending the 5th annual VidCon YouTube convention in Anaheim, CA, Cronin teamed up with seven other technology-related YouTubers to share opinions and thoughts about a non-functioning iPhone 6 mockup model. The personalities featured in the video were Ty Moss, Keaton Keller of TechSmartt, Dom Esposito of macmixing, Lamarr Wilson, Austin Evans, Lewis Hilsenteger of Unbox Therapy, and Jon Morrison of TLDToday.[2]
Following the video's success, Cronin posted another collaboration video two weeks later, this time with only Dom Esposito of macmixing. In this collaboration, Cronin and Esposito shared thoughts and opinions on the larger, non-functioning iPhone 6 Plus mockup model.[3]
Before the end of summer 2014, Cronin rebranded the channel, launching the new URL youtube.com/Mike.
On September 19, 2014, Cronin and his father, Paul, attended the iPhone 6 release at their local Apple retail store at the Garden State Plaza shopping mall in Paramus, NJ. They waited in line for over 14 hours, obtaining both the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus, which were sold in limited quantities. They arrived at the mall at 4:15 a.m. and it took them more than eight hours to reach the front of the line at the Apple store. They were featured in the Bergen County Record and a similar story on NorthJersey.com.[4]
In February 2015, Cronin collaborated again with Keaton Keller from the TechSmartt YouTube channel (with over 350,000 subscribers and over 70 million video views) in a video where they interviewed people in New York City about the upcoming Apple Watch.[5]
Before the end of summer 2015, Cronin revised his YouTube channel and videos, adopting a "friendlier, more personality-driven approach" with new content, including a new set for filming.[6] The set differed significantly from previous backgrounds, including a large couch and a custom-designed youtube.com/Mike canvas.[7]
As of October 2015[update], according to the SocialBlade YouTube-ranking website, Cronin's channel had a B-letter grade, over 500 total video uploads, over 40,000 subscribers, and over 8,000,000 video views. The channel's videos received 5,000–10,000 views per day and gained up to 200 subscribers daily.[8]
Personal life
Cronin resides on the East Coast in New Jersey. As of 2015[update], he was in his final year of high school.
