Mohamed Hassan El-Feky (Mohamed Hassan Mohamed Hassan El-Feky, Arabic: محمد حسن محمد حسن الفقى‎; 1938–1996) was one of Egypt’s prominent fine artists. He taught at the Faculty of Applied Arts, Helwan University while producing a huge number of works that were displayed in various galleries and exhibitions. He was born in Cairo in 1938, to a father who was an equally brilliant academic and artist, Hassan Mohamed Hassan, one of the pioneers of the Egyptian art movement in the beginning of the 20th century. He died in Cairo in 1996, leaving two daughters and a son.

Education[edit]

Mohamed Hassan El Feky had his PhD in Applied Arts, from Helwan University in 1980 with a thesis titled ‘Aesthetic Values in Ancient Egyptian Imaging’.

Career[edit]

He was a professor at the Faculty of Applied Arts, Helwan University and the head of the History and Philosophy of Art and Photography Department. He was also a professor of textured design at the Interior Design Department of the faculty. Moreover, he worked in the field of narrative photography at Dar El Fekr El Araby. He made several wall artworks and mosaics, the most popular of which is that work at the Institute of Police Communication in Nasr City, Cairo. Dr. Mohamed Hassan El-Feky taught for a period in Saudi Arabia at the Intermediate College in Riyadh.

Exhibitions[edit]

His exhibition “Between Reality and Fantasy – Part I” was held at the Faculty of Applied Arts in 1989, and then Part II in 1993 followed by a seminar to discuss the works. In 1994, Part III -the last episode in the series- was held.

Philosophy[edit]

His philosophy focused on translating his thoughts in various fashions. His works reflected deep meditation and complex imaginative skills. His paintings featured a lot of symbolism and mixed traditional Egyptian art with living nature, achieving a unique vision throughout his journey between reality and fantasy.

Awards[edit]

He received many awards and certificates of appreciation, including the Golden Medal for Art Activities from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
