Mohammad Esmaili (Persian: محمد اسماعیلی; 26 August 1934 – 13 August 2023) was an Iranian musician.[1]
Biography
Born in Tehran on 26 August 1934, Esmaili began playing the tombak thanks to his uncles, Morteza and Mostafa Gorine-zadeh, who were trumpeters and clarinettists. He studied under Hossein Tehrani and began playing with Tehrani's tombak group in 1958. In 1964, he became a teacher at the School of Performing Arts & Music. He then became an accompanist to Faramarz Payvar's group and subsequently headed the tombak department at the Ministry of Culture. His notable students included Nasser Farhangfar and Morteza Ghassemi.
Mohammad Esmaili died on 13 August 2023, at the age of 88.[2]
