Mvüko Koza (born 15 June 1995), known professionally as Moko Koza, is an Indian rapper and songwriter from Nagaland.[1] He is considered as one of the first to introduce multi-lingual and folk-fusion rap in Nagaland.[2][3][4]

Early life[edit]

Mvüko Koza was born on 15 June 1995 in Kohima, Nagaland to a Chakhesang Naga family with roots from Khezhakeno.[5] He is the second son of four brothers with two younger sisters. He did his early education in Shalom School from 2000 to 2001 and later attended Ministers' Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School in Kohima from 2002 to 2011. Koza completed his masters in Anthropology from Kohima Science College, Jotsoma in 2019.

He has been into rap since 2005 when he first got the CD of Eminem's starring film 8 Mile (2002) while visiting a CD Store with his father.[5]

Career[edit]

Koza released his first single "Just My Imagination" in 2013. This was followed by several other singles and collaborations such as "Internationally Known" and "Happy Today".

In 2017, Koza released "One Day" (Khunhie Puo), a multi-lingual song where he rapped in both English and his local dialect, Tenyidie. The song went viral and was well received by the listeners. He further released his first Nagamese rap song, "Puisa" in 2018 which was also well received.

In 2019, Koza was signed to Infinity Inc., a record label based in Dimapur.[6]

In September 2022, Koza released his debut album titled, "Naga Manu".[7]
