Moms for America
Moms for America, founded in 2004 in Dayton, Ohio, is a national, conservative[1] non-profit 501(c)(3) whose stated mission is "to build a foundation of liberty in the homes of America, through the mothers of America, to raise a new generation of patriots, and heal our nation from the inside out."[2] Moms for America Action[3] (MFA Action) is the 501(c)(4) non-profit political advocacy and lobbying arm of Moms for America.
Moms for America asks its followers to sign a "Declaration of Mothers Pledge" with text that reads: "In memory of our God, our founders, our freedoms, and our families, and with a firm commitment towards future generations, I solemnly promise and pledge: To openly declare that our rights come from God, not government. To make quality family life my highest priority. To study and defend the US Constitution and the principles of freedom that it maintains. To live a virtuous, moral, and upright life. To educate and nurture the rising generation within my sphere of influence toward good and moral pursuits."[4][5]
MFA Action is dedicated to "protecting our families, our freedom, our faith and all human life. It starts with the Constitution—the document which holds all Americans together. Protecting our Constitution means protecting the America ideas of individual liberty, equal rights under the law, and the rule of law."[6][7]
In 2018, Moms for America President Kimberly Fletcher, who is also co-founder and president of MFA Action[8], organized a group visit to the US-Mexico border to "help others understand why they believe a wall along the U.S.-Mexico wall is needed to protect American families." In an interview with TheBlaze, Fletcher said that sexual assault was common during illegal border crossings, citing the plight of a 6-year-old girl who "had been raped by 30 men”.[9] TheBlaze later retracted its story, saying "The original version of this story reported a claim made by Moms For America President Kimberly Fletcher concerning a girl who had allegedly been found by border security agents with 'DNA from 30 men inside her young body.' This claim has been made by numerous individuals on social media but TheBlaze has been unable to independently verify the factual accuracy of the claim. Its publication does not meed (sic) our editorial standards and it has accordingly been removed, along with an embedded video in this story that made the claim. We regret having published it."[10]
Actor Jon Voight headlined Moms for America's July 4, 2019 "Rally for Freedom" on the US Capitol "where more than 40 Gold Star Wives, Mothers and their family members stood united with military families, 9-11 survivors and Americans from across the country to honor those who paid the ultimate price for freedom and stand boldly against the socialism they fought to defend us against."[11][12]
South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem was given the Moms for America Influence Award and My Pillow Founder CEO Mike Lindell was given their 2020 Courage Award at their Prayer Breakfast[13] held on December 13, 2020. “This is probably the most special reward I’ve ever received,” Noem said, “because I love my family." Lindell was given the Courage Award for "sticking to his support for President Donald Trump even when he was attacked for it."[14]
2020 Presidential Election[edit]
On November 1, 2020, Moms for America "held a rally at the U.S. Supreme Court, encouraging President Donald Trump supporters to get out and vote. “He’s the most pro-life President that we’ve ever had. He’s pro-freedom. He’s pro-family. He’s pro-constitution and he’s pro-America,” said Vivian Brown with Moms for America.[15]
Moms for America encouraged people to attend the December 12, 2020 “Stop the Steal” rally in Washington DC and reportedly had been "claiming there was widespread voter fraud during the Nov. 3 election and that Trump actually won in a landslide."[16]
Fletcher said that 2020 was "a very bad year for freedom. Politicians have used Covid as a massive power grab, usurping the Constitution while exempting themselves from their own draconian mandates. They’ve closed schools, arbitrarily shut down businesses and banned church services in a concerted effort to strip us of everything that gives us purpose and passion–our faith, our family, our freedom. They tried to keep families apart for Thanksgiving and now they want to cancel Christmas."[17][18]
MFM Action compared the period after the 2020 US Presidential Election to the period "after World War II when Russia was using these same methods to steal elections and pull countries in their new communist Soviet Union empire." MFM Action urged their supporters to "flood the phone lines of the media who has made all this possible, the Democrat governors who are allowing it happen, the county election offices that are making it happen and the Republican members of Congress who are sitting on their hands. It doesn’t matter if they like the president (Trump) or not. It isn’t about standing up for him, it is about standing up for us! That is our vote they are trying steal from us."[19]
Save the Republic Rally
On January 5, 2021, the day before the US Congress met for the 2021 United States Electoral College count, Moms for America held a "Save the Republic Rally" at Area 9 on the U.S. Capitol grounds, across from the Russell Senate Office Building.[20] The rally protested the 2020 election result and speakers included Founder of Stop the Steal Ali Alexander and My Pillow CEO Mike Lindell[21] who urged rally participants to get politicians to look at evidence of alleged voter fraud.[22] Fletcher said the event drew about 500 people and cost $13,000 to $14,000.[23] In a statement promoting the event, Fletcher said "With the Constitution being subverted, election integrity in question, and the Republic hanging in the balance, mothers are once again rising up to save the Republic for our families, our freedoms, and our future. As we have seen, evil has infiltrated all aspects of our society and Marxism has infiltrated all levels of our government. Darkness seems to surround us. That is not our vision of the future, and it is not the life we want for our children. We have, therefore, decided to stand up, speak up, and make sure our voices are heard.”
Also at the January 5 event Congresswoman Mary Miller issued a prepared speech quoting Adolf Hitler, saying: "Each generation has the responsibility to teach and train the next generation. You know, if we win a few elections, we're still going to be losing unless we win the hearts and minds of our children. This is the battle. Hitler was right on one thing. He said, whoever has the youth has the future."[24][25] A number of groups and politicians strongly condemned the comment, harshly criticized Miller, and exhorted the Republican party to do likewise. Public statements were issued by the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, Anti-Defamation League, World Jewish Congress, and multiple lawmakers including Adam Kinzinger and Illinois Governor J. B. Pritzker.[26][27][28][29][30][31] Jan Schakowsky, Tammy Duckworth, and the Illinois Legislative Jewish Caucus called for Miller's resignation.[32] Schakowsky released a joint statement along with Reps. Bobby Rush, Robin Kelly, Marie Newman, Jesus “Chuy” Garcia, Mike Quigley, Sean Casten, Danny K. Davis, Raja Krishnamoorthi, Brad Schneider, Bill Foster, Lauren Underwood, and Cheri Bustos which said "We, the duly elected Members of the Illinois Delegation, condemn today’s statement by our new colleague, Mary Miller. This repugnant comment, on a repugnant day, is a black mark on this body and a black mark on our state. Mary Miller must apologize to her constituents, to the American people and to all who memorialize the millions murdered by Hitler.”[33] World Jewish Congress President Ronald Lauder said "It is simply outrageous and obscene for anyone to hold out Hitler, who perpetrated the greatest genocide in history, as a role model for any reason. One might expect this from white supremacists or neo-Nazis, but hearing the words 'Hitler was right' from the mouth of a member of the United States Congress is beyond acceptable behavior by any standards."[34]
Fletcher defended Miller's remarks, saying “Hitler also said, ‘Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it,' If we mandate people not talk about the insidious actions of Hitler, we dismiss the horrific events he incited and open the door for them to be repeated,” Fletcher wrote. “The media should focus on the truth instead of relentlessly repeating big lies.”[35]
Storming of the United States Capitol
Moms for America was listed as one of several sponsors of "Participating in the March to Save America" alongside entities such as Tea Party Patriots, Stop the Steal, WildProtest.com and Turning Point Action.[36]
Moms for America founder and president, Kimberly Fletcher, was present at the January 6, 2021 storming of the United States Capitol and said the event was largely peaceful, until the crowd swarmed the Capitol “like bees.”[37] Moms for America Vice President Debbie Kraulidis was also present at the violent riot at the US Capitol at which 5 people were killed,[38] calling the event a "great day" with "not one problem," saying she only saw "frustrated patriots" and like them wanted "only legal votes" counted because of the "huge amount of evidence" that "election fraud is rampant."[39][40]
On January 7, Fletcher said in a Moms for America Action press release that she "was shaken and deeply saddened at the deaths of those killed inside of the U.S. Capitol today (January 6). Moms for America does not condone violence of any kind, and we condemn the actions of anyone who breaks the law." Fletcher also said that during January 5-7, 2021, "none of the thousands of Trump supporters exhibited anything other than kindness and respect for one another, for local police, and for the rule of law. It is not surprising that The Washington Times confirmed that antifa, designated as a terrorist organization by the FBI, disguised as Trump supporters, stormed the U.S. Capitol. Utilizing software to conduct a facial recognition analysis of protesters, two Philadelphia antifa members were matched to two men inside the (US) Senate."[41]
